Fees based on exchange rate of: US $1 = Y 118. Regional students pay a tuition rate of approximately $500 more per semester than in-state students. Tuition and fees are subject to change.
Housing Fee: Students pay for dormitory housing after arrival at Hokkaido. The student dormitories are located on or near the campus which is very close to the center of downtown Sapporo. Residence halls are open during vacations. Brief descriptions are available online at: www.isc.hokudai.ac.jp.
Students are responsible for comparing the housing options at each site, using the information on the host university's website, or the printed booklet from the Education Abroad Advisor. Not all housing information is available online, so be prepared to read the printed materials.
Housing estimate listed above is based on a single room at International House Kita 8 for 11 months.
Visa/Residence Fees: This is the cost of sending the visa application to the Japanese Consulate by express mail and return cost also.
Passport Fees: Applicable if applying for a passport for the first time. Passports should be valid for at least 6 months after the program end date.
Health & Liability Insurance: Students are required to enroll in the Japanese National Health Insurance plan. In addition, students need to stay enrolled in whatever health insurance plan they now carry when the semester ends, through the study abroad period, and until re-enrolling at UMass/Amherst after completion of the program. Please visit "Health & Safety" on the IPO website (www.ipo.umass.edu) for information regarding health insurance including the UMass insurance policy.
Local Transportation: This is an estimate of cost for getting from airport to city and also for getting around Sapporo on the subway/train during the time in Sapporo.
