Exchange rate used: $1 US = 1,100 KRW. Tuition and fees are subject to change.

Visa/Residence Fees:  U.S. citizens must pay $50.00 for a multiple-entry student visa. NOTE: You will also be required to show proof of funds sufficient to cover your living expenses when you apply for your visa. A bank statement showing approximately $5000 for semester students or $10,000 for full year students is sufficient. 

Passport Fees:  This amount is for first-time passport applicants.

Health & Liability Insurance: This amount is based on the UMass student health plan fee; students who have insurance through a family plan should deduct this amount from the above budget total. Yonsei University requires students to provide proof of international medical coverage in order to participate; Yonsei University does not offer health insurance. Be sure to check with your current insurance provider about whether they cover medical costs incurred abroad; the UMass student health plan does cover expenses incurred abroad.  Please visit "Health & Safety" on the IPO website ( for information regarding health insurance and for information about the UMass travel emergency and accident insurance policy.

Housing:  Fee listed is for a double room at International House.  Students can also choose to live off-campus with relatives.  If you choose to live on-campus, a deposit of about US $88 must be paid by wire transfer about 1 month before the start of the semester. Yonsei will bill you directly for all housing costs.

Meals:  There is no formal meal plan;  students buy meals with cash at campus cafeterias or at small eateries near campus.

Local Transportation:  This is an estimate of what you will need to take buses and trains around Seoul, as well as travel from the airport to campus.

Educational Travel:  This is an estimate for trips around South Korea.

Personal Expenses:  This is an estimate for laundry, cellphone, toiletries, clothing, social/leisure, etc.
