Sophia University offers an Asian Studies 3 week summer program on their campus in the heart of Tokyo, near the Yotsuya train station.
Beginning Japanese language and 12 Japanese Studies courses taught in English are available to choose from. Students take two courses, each of which receives 3 credits; total is 6 credits.
The schedule is set up in two blocks:
8:30 a.m. - 10:40 a.m.
10:50 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
The program includes special tours including an overview of Tokyo, and stops at Meiji Shrine and Asakusa. The program makes it possible for students to experience first hand a range of traditional Japanese arts: Noh, Kabuki, the tea ceremony, flower arrangement, and a variety of Japanese arts on display at Tokyo Museums. These are part of the Program Fee.
Sophia University does not provide housing. Instead, they list on their website several options with cost estimates and links to websites. The possibilities include dormitory-like options, apartment-like options, and hotels. Each participant is responsible for making their own housing arrangement.
