Course Overview
Business in Italy is a three-credit course made up of on-campus seminars in the fall and spring and a 12-day study abroad experience in Italy. Studying and traveling in Italy provides a rare opportunity for a first-hand study of a unique economic power that is known for combining business with a deep sense of aesthetics. The course is designed to be a highly interactive study of Italian culture and business, with the expectation that it will help students appreciate the dynamics of globalization as seen from the vantage point of another developed economy.

Our primary emphasis will be on understanding globalization and its effects on traditional Italian business, using the wine and food industry as a case study for in-depth exploration of this effect. We will read articles that discuss globalization, intercultural communication, the Italian economy, and relevant business industries. During our field trip to Italy, we will seek further understanding by meeting with Italian business people, governmental officials, and students in Italian institutions of higher learning.
