Founded in 1880, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU University Amsterdam) is a comprehensive research university, consistently ranked among the top 150 universities in the world. It comprises twelve faculties and has teaching facilities for 26,000 students.
The Amsterdam Summer School offers courses in 3 two-week blocks during the month of July and August. You can combine two-three courses for a four or six-week program.
The University campus and university hospital are situated in the south-western part of Amsterdam, one of the most dynamic and fast-growing business districts in the Netherlands. Schiphol-Amsterdam airport is 10 kilometers away--just 8 minutes by train.
Students choose one course per two week block. The courses are 3 UMass credits each.
of the Amsterdam Summer School are taught at three different levels, namely Beginner Bachelor, Advanced Bachelor and Master. Courses that are offered both at Bachelor and Master level will have a different workload for Bachelor's and Master's students. For these various levels, the following entry requirements are set:
Beginner Bachelor: enrolled as a student in a university
Advanced Bachelor: completed at least two years at a university
Master: completed Bachelor’s degree

* If on the basis of the provided documents doubts remain about the academic level of the student, the Amsterdam Summer School reserves the right to ask for additional documents and/or a telephone/Skype interview.
The tuition fee for a two-week course ranges between €1,000 ($1,100) to €1,150 ($1,250) Fees for housing will start at € 425 ($460) per two-week block. Included are airport pick-up service, orientation programme, on-site support, 24/7 emergency assistance and a transcript of records after completion of the course. The social program is not included in the tuition fee.If you select two consecutive courses and study with the Amsterdam Summer School for both 2 weeks blocks (four weeks total), you will receive a 10% discount on the second course fee. Some courses will include excursions.
An early bird discount of €150 is available for students who apply before March 8 and students from UMass Amherst, an exchange partner with VU Amsterdam will also receive a €250 discount.
The Amsterdam Summer School offers furnished accommodation
with private or shared facilities in the student campus Uilenstede, just a five-minute bike ride or three tram stops from the VU Amsterdam campus. Uilenstede houses both Dutch and international students and the area offers many facilities such as a grocery store, cafe cultural center and sports center.
