Program Description:
Academics

The CAPA Shanghai Global Cities Program offers a comprehensive learning abroad experience. As China emerges as a powerful economic force, its stature is too significant to be ignored. Shanghai is a global city, with influence in commerce, culture, finance, media, fashion, technology, and transport. It is a major financial center and the busiest container port in the world. The combination of relevant contextual courses, internships, and a rich cultural program creates an invaluable academic and practical experience for students.
 
The CAPA Shanghai Program during the semesters includes English contextual courses offered by East China Normal University (ECNU) as part of their Global Curriculum Program as well as optional Chinese Mandarin Language, optional internships and a CAPA closed group Learning through Internships (LTI) class.  
 
Students participating in an internship have two options:
 
Internship of 20 hours, CAPA closed group LTI (18 hours), ECNU 12 hour Mandarin language (150 hours for 9 credits) and, if desired, one ECNU English contextual class (45 hours)
Internship of 20 hours, CAPA closed group LTI (18 hours), 3 ECNU English contextual classes (45 hours each) 


CAPA will offer the following courses from the ECNU Global Curriculum Program (subject to change by ECNU and CAPA):
 
Globalization and Urbanization: China’s Urban Transformation and What It Means for the World
Issues in Contemporary Chinese Society
Cross-Cultural Communication
Chinese Civilization:  An Introduction
An Introduction to Classical Chinese Philosophy
Contemporary Chinese Cinema
Introduction to Chinese Government, Politics, and Policy
China’s Macroeconomic Impact
Introduction to Marketing (China Focus) (Fall 15 only)
International Trade (Fall 15 only) 

In summer, CAPA will offer the following program (all courses are closed group courses offered just to CAPA students):
 
Global City Shanghai (Globalization and Urbanization) for a total of 48 hours.
Learning through Internships (LTI) for those participating in an internship for 12 hours.
Two levels of Mandarin: beginner and intermediate for a total of 48 hours.

Students participating in an internship have two options:
 
Internship of 20 hours, CAPA closed group LTI (12 hours), and closed group Mandarin (48 hours)
Internship of 20 hours, CAPA closed group LTI (12 hours), and closed group Global Cities (48 hours)

Housing

Semester:
Twin rooms in the East China Normal University (ECNU) dormitory.  Each room has a bed, table and closet for each student and there is air conditioning and free wifi (via in-room router) and in shared areas (wired connections are also available in the dorm rooms).  The single-gender bathrooms are shared and located on each floor. There are shared kitchens and washers and dryers (extra cost) on some floors in the dorms. CAPA will house CAPA students with other CAPA students of the same gender. In cases where there is an odd number, ECNU will provide an international student with whom the CAPA student will room for no additional cost.
 
Summer (Internship Not offered):
Twin en-suite rooms in the international exchange service center dormitory at ECNU. CAPA will house CAPA students with other CAPA students of the same gender.  Accommodations for summer include: TV, Internet, en-suite bathrooms with shower over bath, access to laundry facilities (extra cost). There are no kitchen facilities but CAPA will provide a small refrigerator and a kettle in each room. One shared work desk and shared closet.
